Tree Removal behind GMCS and Lane Closure on Canyon Crest Drive - From 12/19/2024 to 01/17/2025

The re-routing of high-voltage power lines on the hillside between GMCS and Canyon Crest Drive will necessitate the removal of several trees. The removal of trees is being timed to avoid disturbance of any nesting activities of birds that may occasionally inhabit the surrounding areas. In compliance with SDSU’s practices, replacement trees will be planted elsewhere on campus to enhance the environment of the campus’ wildlife and human community. The work will impact vehicular traffic through Canyon Crest Drive so that a portion of the outside east-bound lane will be temporarily closed. However, thru-traffic will be maintained. Additionally, pedestrian traffic through the hillside ramp between Canyon Crest Drive and GMCS will be closed permanently. Pedestrian access to campus will remain available via the accessible route through the Chemical Sciences Lab elevator to the 5th floor. Vehicular and pedestrian traffic will be directed by signage, flagmen and traffic control. Please be advised that the work may generate localized dust and noise, although no utility outages are expected.

Aztec Circle Drive Traffic and Parking Lot 16 - From 11/08/2024 to 04/08/2025

The re-routing of 12kV cables will require vehicular traffic on the northern corner of Aztec Circle Drive near the Engineering Building to be intermittently limited to one alternating thru-lane for both directions of travel. Traffic will be directed by signage, flagmen and traffic control. Additionally, there will be periodic closures affecting the parking stalls behind the GMCS building and a small number of parking spaces in Lot 16. Please be advised that the work may generate localized dust and noise, although no utility outages are expected.

Avenue of the Arts and Aztec Circle Drive - From 10/22/2024 to 10/25/2024

The demolition of existing underground medium voltage cables will require vehicular traffic on Avenue of the Arts and the northern corner of Aztec Circle Drive to be intermittently limited to one alternating thru-lane for both directions of travel. Traffic will be directed by signage, flagmen and traffic control. Additionally, there will be periodic closures affecting a minimal number of parking stalls behind the GMCS building and in Parking Lot 16. Please be advised that the work may generate localized dust and noise, though no utility outages are expected.

All Campus Users - From 10/07/2024 to 02/05/2025

The relocation of the SDG&E electrical pole to the Engineering Building courtyard will require the courtyard to be temporarily closed with construction fencing. The courtyard closure will impact the ADA path of travel through the courtyard, but other alternate ADA paths of travel will remain accessible. During active construction for relocation of the pole, the following impacts are anticipated: • For potholing and augering activities, a number of ADA parking spots in the Engineering Building lot will be temporarily closed for one day. • The parking lot behind the GMCS Building will be temporarily closed to accommodate construction truck parking and equipment traffic for one day. • Single lane closure in a portion of Aztec Circle to safely relocate the SDG&E pole to the Engineering Building courtyard. Thru traffic will be maintained. Please heed the directions and instructions of signage and flaggers in the area.
