Notice for Loss of Redundancy in Power Generation – Substation A

To: Administration, Art (I) South, Art (II) North, Arts and Letters, Atkinson Hall, Aztec Bookstore, Building A, Bioscience Center, Charles B. Bell Jr. Pavilion, Chemical Sciences Lab, Education, Engineering, Engineering & Interdisciplinary Sciences, Facilities Services Boiler Shop, Faculty Staff Club, Geology Math and Computer Science, Hardy Tower, Hazmat Building, Hepner Hall, Life Sciences North, Life Sciences South, Lot 16, Marquee Sign, Nasatir Hall, North Education, Physics, Physics-Astronomy, Physical Sciences, Professional Studies and Fine Arts, and Storm Complex Occupants

From: Sarah Abdellatif, Substation A Communication Specialist/Program Analyst

Please be advised that Planning, Design & Construction will be performing a project that may impact you. Below are the details of the scope of work and anticipated impacts:

Scope of Work: The redundant power feed from SDG&E will be temporarily disconnected to ensure a safe working environment for SDG&E crews as they support electrical infrastructure upgrades for buildings served by Substation A. During this time, the campus gas turbine generators will continue to supply power to the campus.

Reason for Project: Work associated with the Electrical Infrastructure Upgrades project in support of current campus needs and future growth.

Anticipated Impacts: Occupants should be aware that redundancy in the power feed will be temporarily unavailable for buildings served by Substation A. In the event of a power loss during the maintenance period, emergency generators will continue to supply power to emergency circuits. The project team has a restoration plan in place, anticipated to take less than 30 minutes. While the likelihood of interruptions is low, it is recommended that any sensitive equipment be shut down in advance as a precaution.

Duration of Impacts:

Start Time / Date: 6:45 am, Thursday, March 13th, 2025

End Time / Date: 3:00 pm, Thursday, March 13th, 2025
