Impact Mitigation Efforts

Our team understands there are many challenges that come with managing construction on campus.  We will be prioritizing planning for ways to minimize impacts associated with construction.   Here are some of the ways we will be able to accomplish the improvements while we support and maintain a healthy, productive campus environment:

  • Picking the Right Team - when we looked for a design-build partner to perform the work, one of the requirements was for that partner to be an experienced and empathetic partner.  Our team has a portfolio of large-scale infrastructure projects on occupied campuses and accustomed to working through the challenges of working on an active campus.
  • Preliminary Planning and Investigation - beginning with the design phase, conversations with our construction and design partners included topics on logistics, identifying known impacts, and seeking out the possibilities of unknown impacts.
  • Working with the Campus Schedule - our team will be scheduling our most impactful scopes of work around campus holidays/breaks, weekends, and building off-hours whenever possible.  If this is not feasible, we will be working directly with college and division leadership to identify the least impactful times to perform the work.
  • Planned Utility Outages and Temporary Power - during design, we have been compiling information about how buildings and users may be affected by construction.  We understand that the proposed work has the potential to affect equipment associated with labs and research projects.  Our team will be outlining detailed, customized plans to manage outages and provide temporary power and/or other utilities when needed. Plans will include input from college and division leadership.
  • Proactive Communication - SDSU's Planning, Design & Construction (PDC) will be managing the project with the knowledge and oversight of Facilities Services. College and division leadership will be contacted for feedback in minimizing impacts.  Additionally, advance notifications will be sent out via email and/or Strat-Comm's State Up to Date eNewsletters.  Website information will be updated weekly as a minimum.
